Abstract No. 1    Acrylic on box canvas  12in. x 24in.

Playing with texture and a limited pallet. I wanted to create something abstract but that also carried a message. This painting contains several metaphors relating to a very significant event in my brother and sister in law's lives, and in part, my own as well.  Collection of P. Mitchener.

'River deep mountain high'  50cm x 35cm  watercolour and multi media on paper

Playing around with shapes and texture on this one.  It may be a tad too busy, but I like the feel of it.

Akaroa  Lighthouse  approx 10x12 in. acrylic

I painted this from photo reference of a tour of the South Island recently. We loved this little coastal town with its French influence in the street names and cafes. The fresh croissants were pretty good too.

Wellington City 60cm x 60cm Acrylic on canvas

Wellington coastline.  750 x 250mm on boxed canvas

This was painted from a photo courtesy of Samuel Earp who also happens to be a great plein air painter. Check out his web site he has some very good tutorials on there.  SOLD

Wellington City street  30.5 x 30.5cm

This was painted about a year ago. I decided to rework it and have basically overpainted the whole canvas. I adjusted the perspective, the cars and the texture of the brushwork. I think it is much improved, but you will just have to take my word for that.   sold

'Rural Desperado's'  750mm x 250mm Acrylic   Sold

Several years ago I came across a row of rural letterboxes that looked as though someone had taken to them with a baseball bat, many were badly dented and twisted. I immediately saw them as a group of tough old bandits so I took many photos for future reference. Recently I decided to re-visit this idea and arranged the best of them in the sequence I wanted. I chose a plain background in order to not distract from the letterboxes. It was probably a bit of a whimsical theme but I liked the humor in the idea.
