The weather was beautiful yesterday so loaded up the car with all my painting gear and trucked on down to the harbour to this little sheltered bay.  I have only been doing Plein Air painting for about a year and then not that often, so am pretty pleased with this one.

A day out painting recently in this fabulous spot. Lots of subjects here, boats, tidal inlet, coastal scenes etc. Those two seagulls posed pretty much the whole time I was there, they must like company or were wondering who the nutter was waving his arms about.

My main interest and focal point here is the strong light contrast in the top left. The water is purposefully left as a simple flat tone of colour so as to not compete with the focal area. The play of light and shadow produced many interesting shapes.

The Red Kayak    9x12 inch acrylics.    I thought I would post some plein air work that I have been doing recently.  These guys turned up in their kayak just as I was finishing up. It gave a nice compliment to all the green, that red kayak.
